Auburndale City Commission Approves Funding for New Downtown Park Benches

Auburndale residents can look forward to more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing public spaces following the City Commission's unanimous vote last night to allocate funds for new park benches in downtown Auburndale, in the heart of Polk County, Florida. The decision, made during the regular commission meeting on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, will see an upgrade to seating options in several key areas, including City Park and along Main Street.

The initiative aims to enhance the downtown experience for shoppers, diners, and those simply enjoying the city's green spaces. Commissioner Evelyn Reed, who has been a vocal proponent of downtown revitalization efforts, stated during the meeting, "These new benches aren't just about providing a place to sit; they're about inviting people to linger, to enjoy our beautiful downtown, and to foster a stronger sense of community."

Funding for the new benches will come from the city's existing beautification budget, with an estimated cost of $12,500 covering the purchase and installation of twenty new benches. The Public Works Department will oversee the project, with installation expected to begin in late May and conclude by early July, just in time for summer activities. The new benches will feature a durable, classic design chosen to complement the historic architecture of downtown Auburndale.

Residents can anticipate seeing the first new benches installed near the gazebo in City Park, a popular spot for community gatherings and events. Additional benches will be placed strategically along Main Street, particularly in front of local businesses like Auburndale Pharmacy and the historic Auburndale Historical Society building, providing convenient resting spots for pedestrians.

Further details regarding the exact placement of the benches will be announced by the Public Works Department in the coming weeks. The City Commission expressed optimism that this small but significant investment will contribute to a more welcoming and vibrant downtown core for all Auburndale citizens.
