Are Your Tires Feeling The Pressure? Naples Drivers Reminded to Check Tire Health

As Naples residents navigate their daily commutes and errands—from the boutiques of Fifth Avenue South to the sandy shores—local automotive experts are issuing a timely reminder: check your tire pressure. With fluctuating temperatures and the wear and tear of daily driving, properly inflated tires are crucial for safety, fuel efficiency, and extending the life of your vehicle's tires.

"It's one of those simple maintenance tasks that often gets overlooked," says Mark Johnson, owner of Johnson's Auto Repair on Tamiami Trail North. "Underinflated tires can lead to a host of problems, from reduced gas mileage to increased risk of blowouts, especially with the heat we can experience here in Naples."

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), properly inflated tires can improve fuel economy by up to 3.3 percent. For Naples drivers, this could translate to significant savings at the pump over time. Beyond the financial benefits, correct tire pressure ensures optimal handling and braking, which are critical for avoiding accidents on busy roads like US 41 or Immokalee Road, or even the quieter lanes of Old Naples.

Experts recommend checking tire pressure at least once a month, and always before long trips, such as those toward the nearby Everglades. The recommended pressure for your vehicle can typically be found on a sticker inside the driver's side door jamb or in your car's owner's manual. It's important to check tires when they are cold, meaning the car hasn't been driven for at least three hours or more than a mile.

Local service stations and tire shops, including Naples Tire & Auto on Airport-Pulling Road, often offer free tire pressure checks. "We're always happy to help a neighbor out," says Sarah Chen, manager at Naples Tire & Auto. "It takes just a few minutes, and it can make a big difference in safety and performance."

So, before you head out to the beach or run your next errand, take a moment to ensure your tires are feeling the right amount of pressure. It's a small step that can lead to a smoother, safer, and more economical drive for everyone in Naples.
