American Journalist Shelly Kittleson Released in Iraq
American journalist Shelly Kittleson, who was recently kidnapped near Baghdad, Iraq, has been released, officials announced. The U.S. Department of State confirmed Kittleson's release on April 7, 2026, attributing her kidnapping to members of Kata'ib Hizballah, identified as a foreign terrorist organization.
The U.S. Department of State acknowledged assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of War, and other U.S. personnel, as well as the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council and other Iraqi partners, in securing Kittleson's freedom.
Officials stated the resolution reflects the U.S. administration's commitment to the safety and security of American citizens abroad.
Authorities are currently arranging for Kittleson's safe departure from Iraq.
