Allapattah Gunman on House Arrest After Restaurant Shooting

National Desk
May 12, 2026
MIAMI — A gunman captured on video firing at a victim outside Republica Food & Lounge in Allapattah faces attempted murder charges, according to Miami Police Department reports. The incident unfolded Oct. 5 at the restaurant located at 1260 NW 36th St., near Northwest 13th Avenue. Francisco Alexis de Leon, 36, of Miramar, got into an argument with the victim, was asked to leave, then returned and shot the man, who was seen limping away in surveillance footage obtained by Local 10 News from police sources. De Leon self-surrendered to Miami police on Oct. 8, two days after the shooting, after facial recognition software matched his face to the video and linked him to a Toyota Highlander, per MPD arrest reports. He faces charges including attempted murder, shooting or throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle, using a firearm in a felony, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and improper exhibition of a firearm. The Dominican national was initially held without bond at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. As of Feb. 19, 2026, de Leon was released to house arrest pending trial, with his next hearing scheduled for May 7 in Miami-Dade County court, according to jail records and police updates cited by Local 10 News. The victim was transported to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in unknown condition. MPD continues investigating and urges tips to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. This shooting adds to Allapattah's ongoing public safety challenges amid Florida's broader crime trends, including recent arrests in a Martin County sex trafficking sting and a Tampa 'teen takeover' incident with 22 youths detained. As an Everglades wildfire scorches 11,000 acres, threatening South Florida air quality, residents should monitor AirNow.gov for real-time AQI updates and limit outdoor activity if levels exceed 100. Local police efforts highlight state resilience against rising violence.
