ARDMORE, Pa. -- A 73-year-old bicyclist remains in critical condition Monday after a driver slammed into him on School Lane in this Montgomery County borough Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred just before 4 p.m., when the victim was heading north on the road. Authorities say a southbound 2018 Buick Enclave, driven by an 18-year-old male, lost control, veered left across the lane and struck the rider.[1]
The bicyclist was rushed to Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, where he continues to fight for his life. The teen driver was taken to nearby Bryn Mawr Hospital with minor injuries, treated and released the same day. Lower Merion Township police have launched an investigation but have not announced charges against the driver as of Monday morning.[1]
Ardmore, a busy suburb along the Main Line west of Philadelphia, has seen its share of pedestrian and bike crashes amid growing cycling popularity on roads like School Lane. This incident underscores ongoing safety concerns for cyclists in Pennsylvania's densely traveled corridors, where state data shows hundreds of bike-vehicle collisions annually. No further details on the victim's identity or the driver's condition have been released.
