April 28, 1928 -April 22, 2024 Graveside Service Wednesday April 24, 2024 1:00 pm Lakeside Memorial Park 10301 NW 25th St, Miami, FL 33172 Catherine Leef, died on April 22, 2024 in Hallandale Beach, Florida just short of turning 96 years old. Catherine is survived by her children, Susan and Richard Whitebrook, their spouses, Benetos Matthaiou and Haytir Whitebrook, and her grandsons Max Matthaiou, Alexios Matthaiou and Max Whitebrook. Catherine was born in April of 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri and was the youngest of 5 children. She moved to Miami Beach in the 1950s and resided in South Florida for the rest of her life. She was an extremely loving and supportive mother and grandmother and a great friend to all who had the good fortune to know her. She was an excellent cook, baker and cake decorator who loved entertaining friends and traveling, especially on cruises and to her favorite destination, Las Vegas, where she was known to make a wager or two. She was also an avid sports fan who supported all of the local teams, especially the Marlins and never missed watching a game. She also adopted her son’s Tarheels as her own and followed their basketball players closely when they went to the NBA. A funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24th  at Lakeside Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Doral, with shiva to follow at her son’s home and on Thursday. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Catherine’s life. The family would like to thank her amazing home health aide, Valerie Dunbar Brooks, for seeing Catherine through the long and difficult final 5 years of her life. We will forever be grateful beyond words for all that she did for our mother.
