Federal Judge Blocks Trump Administration From Making Immigration Arrests in Courthouses

Why it matters locally: This federal ruling could impact the operations of courthouse facilities and the ability of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to conduct arrests within courthouses across Texas, potentially affecting individuals accessing the justice system in places like the Harris County Administration Office.

A federal judge has barred the Trump administration from conducting immigration arrests within courthouse buildings, according to court documents. The ruling represents the second judicial limitation on such enforcement actions in recent months. In May, a judge in New York prohibited immigration arrests at immigration court facilities in that jurisdiction. Courthouse arrest restrictions have emerged as a recurring point of tension between the administration's immigration enforcement priorities and judicial concerns about courthouse access and operations. The specifics of the current order, including which courthouse the ruling covers and the judge's stated reasoning, remain central to understanding how broadly this decision may influence future enforcement practices across the federal court system.
