Residents and visitors in Aransas Islands, Kleberg Islands, Nueces Islands, and Calhoun Islands are advised of a Rip Current Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Corpus Christi TX. Dangerous rip currents are expected until 7:00 PM CDT today, October 9, 2026. Minor coastal flooding is also in effect until 7:00 AM CDT Sunday.

The NWS warns that rip currents can sweep even experienced swimmers away from shore into deeper, life-threatening water. Coastal flooding may lead to inundation of lots, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures possible.

For those entering the water, swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. Instead, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

For those driving, allow extra time for travel as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect any flood-prone property.
