DO NOT ENTER LAKE ERIE: High Rip Current Risk Through Wednesday

A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for Lucas, Ottawa, Erie, Lorain, and Cuyahoga Counties due to a high risk of rip currents. The National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland OH issued this statement today, September 20, at 9:25 PM EDT, effective until Wednesday, September 23, at 10:00 PM EDT.

Residents and visitors in the affected areas are advised to remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions. Wind and wave action on Lake Erie are creating dangerous currents that can carry swimmers away from the shore, including through sand bars and along lakefront structures.

The NWS strongly urges individuals to avoid entering the water during this period. These conditions pose a significant threat to anyone in the lake. The Beach Hazards Statement is expected to expire on Wednesday evening.
