Southern Miss Softball Eyes Repeat Glory After Strong 2025 Sun Belt Run
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss softball clinched the Sun Belt Conference regular-season championship in 2025, capping the campaign with a 4-1 victory over Texas State as first reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald. The Golden Eagles posted a 33-23 overall record and 14-10 in conference play, tying their most Sun Belt wins since 2016 despite dropping a doubleheader to ULM—1-0 and 2-1—to close the regular season at the ULM Softball Complex in Monroe, Louisiana.
The Lady Eagles, representing the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, compete in NCAA Division I as part of the Sun Belt Conference. Their 16-10 home mark at the USM Softball Complex included a dramatic 10th-inning walk-off triumph over rival Ole Miss, fueling momentum before a narrow tournament exit to Coastal Carolina's Chanticleers, who claimed the title.
Entering 2026 with championship pedigree, Southern Miss kicks off the season Feb. 6 hosting the Black and Gold Challenge at home. The slate features Southeast Missouri State at 4:30 p.m., followed by UAB and Lipscomb on Feb. 7, and Louisiana Tech plus SEMO on Feb. 8. A midweek clash at Mississippi State in Starkville on Feb. 10 adds intrastate intensity.
The Sun Belt Championship looms May 6 with first-round action, where the Eagles aim to build on their 2025 regular-season crown. With Hattiesburg buzzing and a 0-0 record primed for history, coach Melissa Myers' squad eyes deeper postseason runs for Mississippi faithful.
