Duval Elections Opens 'Democracy Starts Here' Exhibit

JACKSONVILLE – The Duval County Supervisor of Elections office opened its new permanent exhibition, “Democracy Starts Here: From Ballots to Belonging,” on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026. The 1,200-square-foot exhibit at the newly renovated Elections Center, One Imeson Park Blvd., Building 100, explores the foundational role of local election offices in American democracy.

The exhibition honors election officials, poll workers and voters as essential stewards of democracy. It features more than 50 items, including artifacts and historic images, contributed by the Museum of Science and History (MOSH), Jacksonville History Center, Jacksonville Public Library, UNF Special Collections & University Archives, and The Florida Times-Union.

The opening event included remarks from Mayor Donna Deegan and City Council President Nick Howland. The celebration also marked the expansion of a veterans wall within the Elections Center.

“Democracy Starts Here” is the first museum dedicated to voting history in Duval County. The exhibition is open to the public from Sept. 8 through Oct. 16, 2026. It is accessible Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., excluding holidays. Admission is free.
