The City of Lighthouse Point has begun a comprehensive maintenance project for its fifteen seawalls, soliciting proposals for essential repair and refurbishment. The initiative addresses structural integrity and longevity, aiming to keep the city's waterfront as vibrant as areas near Pompano Beach's historic Pier.
The project is crucial for maintaining city infrastructure and protecting waterfront properties. Work includes concrete spall repair, seawall refacing, crack sealing, pressure cleaning, and partial seawall cap replacement. The city will also backfill voids behind the seawalls to prevent further erosion and structural compromise, particularly for properties along the Intracoastal Waterway.
The city owns and maintains fifteen seawalls at various locations: east of Lighthouse Drive between NE 48th Court and NE 48th Street; northeast of Lighthouse Drive and NE 23rd Terrace; southeast of Lighthouse Drive and NE 23rd Terrace; eleven seawalls north and south along NE 39th Street; and one at the eastern end of NE 36th Street.
A Request for Proposal (RFP) has been issued. The city anticipates construction will begin in late October or early November, before the winter boating season. Residents may experience disruptions in work areas.
