PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER – FULL-TIMEPerforms public safety duties involving the protection of life and property and the enforcement of applicable City ordinances and State laws. Depending on certification, responsibilities may include law enforcement patrol, emergency response, emergency medical services, public assistance and other duties within the Department of Public Safety.The employee must maintain the appropriate State of Florida certification and participate in required training and continuing education. All emergency medical services are provided in accordance with applicable Volusia County EMS protocols and medical direction. Work requires regular interaction with the public and an emphasis on professional service and positive community relations.This position requires rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays, and may be subject to call while off duty. Duties may include landscaping, asphalt and concrete work, equipment operation, special-event support and emergency response.The level of responsibility varies based on experience, demonstrated skill and equipment qualifications. Higher-level positions require greater independence, technical knowledge and responsibility and may include skilled equipment operation, crew coordination, recordkeeping and leadership duties.
