A High Wind Warning has been issued for Cherokee, Clay, and Johnson counties in North Carolina; Cocke Smoky Mountains, Southeast Greene, Unicoi, Southeast Carter, Blount Smoky Mountains, Sevier Smoky Mountains, Southeast Monroe, and East Polk in Tennessee; and Russell and Washington counties in Virginia. The National Weather Service (NWS) Morristown TN issued this warning today, October 10, at 2:32 AM EDT, effective until Sunday, October 11, at 8:00 AM EDT.

East winds are expected to reach 20 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 70 mph, particularly in higher elevations. Residents are urged to secure any loose objects that could be moved or damaged by the wind.

The NWS warns that damaging winds will likely cause trees and power lines to fall, leading to widespread power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. While lower terrains may experience fewer impacts, vigilance is advised across all affected areas. This weather event is expected to produce high winds along the eastern Tennessee mountains and foothills.
