Residents in Athens, Meigs, Gallia, and Mason counties should seek shelter indoors immediately due to strong thunderstorms. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, WV, issued a Special Weather Statement at 11:40 PM EDT, effective until 12:15 AM EDT on September 21st.
Doppler radar indicates strong thunderstorms are moving east at 35 mph, with a line extending from Albany to near Rutland to 9 miles northeast of Rio Grande. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph. The NWS warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include Pomeroy, Albany, Racine, Rutland, New Haven, Mason, Tuppers Plains, Middleport, Chester, Syracuse, Hartford City, Cheshire, Lakin, Dyesville, Darwin, Harrisonville, Dexter, Kyger, and Carpenter.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are advised not to drive through flooded roadways. If you are outdoors, please seek shelter inside a sturdy building until the statement expires.
