Dense Fog Advisory Issued for Region: Drive with Caution This Morning

Residents across numerous counties in West Virginia, Southwest Virginia, and Northeastern Kentucky are advised to exercise extreme caution when traveling this morning due to dense fog. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, WV, issued a Special Weather Statement at 4:49 AM EDT, effective until 10:00 AM EDT today, September 27, 2026.

Dense fog has developed in many river and mountain valleys, significantly restricting visibility to half a mile or less in some areas. Affected counties include Lawrence, Dickenson, Buchanan, Wayne, Cabell, Lincoln, Putnam, Kanawha, Roane, Calhoun, Mingo, Logan, Boone, Clay, Braxton, Gilmer, Lewis, McDowell, Wyoming, Upshur, Northwest Raleigh, Southeast Raleigh, Northwest Fayette, Southeast Fayette, Northwest Nicholas, Southeast Nicholas, Northwest Webster, Southeast Webster, Northwest Pocahontas, Southeast Pocahontas, Northwest Randolph, and Southeast Randolph.

The NWS urges all drivers to slow down, use low beam headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles. Allow additional time to reach your destination safely. This advisory is in effect for the duration of the morning commute.
