Kimberly Simmons: A Community Leader's Enduring Impact on Plant City

Kimberly Simmons, a lifelong resident and dedicated advocate, continues to shape Plant City through her work in public housing, accessible transportation, and community building. Her efforts have left a lasting mark on neighborhoods across the city.

Simmons grew up in the local area, attending Roosevelt High School and graduating in 1987. Since 1999, she has been a vocal advocate for the community, focusing on critical issues such as public housing and accessible transportation.

Her advocacy led to tangible results, including a key role in the establishment of the Southside Community Center, which opened its doors in 2005. Five years later, in 2010, Simmons led a successful campaign to expand local bus routes, significantly benefiting residents of the East End neighborhood. The Mayor's Office recognized her dedication to public service in 2012, awarding her the 'Citizen of the Year' honor.

In 2015, Simmons founded the 'Neighbors Together' initiative. This program focuses on intergenerational community building, fostering connections and support among different age groups within Plant City.
