A High Wind Warning has been issued for the Southern Mountains by the National Weather Service (NWS) Salt Lake City, effective immediately. Residents should take action to secure loose outdoor objects and exercise extreme caution when driving, especially in high-profile vehicles.

The warning is in effect from 7:57 AM MDT today, October 11, until 6:00 AM MDT on Monday, October 12. South winds are expected to reach 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 80 mph. Wind gusts between 70 and 82 mph have already been observed in the Pine Valleys and near Brian Head as of 7:55 AM. The strongest gusts are anticipated over the Pine Valley Mountains, near Brian Head, and Boulder Summit.

High winds can move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles and those with trailers. The NWS also warns that strong winds combined with saturated soils increase the risk of downed trees. Backcountry users in high elevations should exercise high caution near trees. Secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind.
