WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump stated Friday that the United States is not holding discussions with Iran. The declaration came amid ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important maritime chokepoint.
Trump's comments follow an extended period of heightened U.S.-Iran relations, particularly concerning maritime security in the Persian Gulf region. The Strait of Hormuz serves as a crucial passage for a significant portion of the world's oil supply.
Recent reports have indicated a continued standoff in the strait. Specific details regarding the nature of this standoff were not immediately available.
Discussions between the two nations have been a subject of speculation and international attention in recent months. Trump's statement clarifies the current lack of direct negotiations. The U.S. previously withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement.
