Three firefighters killed battling wildfires on Colorado-Utah border
Three firefighters died fighting wildfires along the Colorado-Utah border as fire crews worked to contain multiple blazes across an arid region. Two other firefighters were injured during operations.
Authorities did not immediately release additional details about the circumstances surrounding the deaths or the extent of the firefighters' injuries. The fatalities occurred as crews responded to fires that spread across the drought-affected landscape.
The Cottonwood Fire, which burned in the area, required aerial firefighting resources. Helicopters dropped water on the blaze as crews worked to control the spread.
Multiple fires burned simultaneously across the region, stretching available resources as firefighting agencies coordinated response efforts.
