Pinellas Park's new agritourism center, the Patti Johnson Farm, is planting seeds of agricultural education for local youth. The farm, named in honor of the late Councilwoman Patti Johnson, aims to teach school-aged children about where their food comes from and the basics of running a farm.
The farm’s garden areas, currently in their early stages, are expected to bloom into a vibrant space attracting butterflies and birds. A small collection of traditional farm animals will also reside at the center.
Upcoming programs include introductory gardening classes, workshops on raising backyard poultry, and lessons on starting compost or worm bins. Residents can also learn about preserving harvests.
As the farm develops, organizers plan to introduce animal shows and community events. Visitors will see the farm as a work in progress, with grounds and features evolving.
The farm's animals include four white Peking ducks, a black cow, a miniature donkey, two Nigerian Dwarf goat sisters, a brown mini-horse named Spirit, and a Silkie Rooster named Wade. Photos of children gardening and a resting cow are available to support the farm's educational mission.
City officials anticipate the farm will become a valuable community asset, offering a space for discovery and learning.
