The Island Players community theater has announced its upcoming season, featuring a diverse lineup of five productions including comedies, dramas, and mysteries.

The season opens with "Always a Bridesmaid," a comedy by Jones, Hope, and Wooten. The play follows four Southern friends who pledged to be in each other's weddings and are still honoring that vow over 30 years later.

Next, audiences can see Lauren Gunderson's drama "Silent Sky." The play tells the story of Henrietta Leavitt, a pioneering astronomer at Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s.

Norman Robbins' thriller "Prescription for Murder" will also be staged. The mystery centers on Dr. Richard Forth, his ex-girlfriend Julia and his ailing wife Barbara, who become entangled in suspicion when a stranger appears claiming to know Richard's former fiancée. The plot escalates as someone appears determined to eliminate Barbara and anyone else who obstructs their path.

Two more comedies round out the season. "'Til Beth Do Us Part," also by Jones, Hope, and Wooten, explores the chaos when career-driven Suzannah Hayden hires an assistant, Beth Bailey, who takes her directive to manage the household too literally.

Andrew Bergman's "Social Security" concludes the season. The play follows Manhattan art gallery owners Barbara and David Kahn, whose quiet life is disrupted and brightened by the introduction of Barbara's mother, Sophie, to artist Maurice Koenig.
