Barrier Islands Council Forms in Pinellas County

REDINGTON BEACH, FL – Eleven municipalities along Pinellas County's barrier islands have formed the Barrier Islands Governmental Council (BIG C) to address shared challenges and amplify their collective voice.

Incorporated in 1990, the BIG C serves as a communication hub for these island communities, fostering collaboration on issues vital to the islands' character and economy. These include tourism, recycling, public transportation, beach preservation and access, and marine environment protection.

The council also focuses on air and water quality, public safety, density management, and waterway regulations. A key objective is presenting a unified front to county, state, and federal governments while respecting individual member city autonomy.

Member cities include Belleair Beach, Belleair Shore, Clearwater, Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, Madeira Beach, North Redington Beach, Redington Beach, Redington Shores, St. Pete Beach, and Treasure Island.
