Our next Lindenhurst Resident Profile features Jeff Evans, who moved to Lindenhurst in 2001 from Venetian Village.  He remembers how excited he was as a 12-year-old, watching the nation celebrate its bicentennial. Evans is on the committee to help the Village prepare to celebrate America 250. It gives him a chance to reminisce; “to tie where I’m at today, compared to 50 years ago,” he said. “I was 12!”

“I was 12!” “I remember it to this day. I can see how this will be a keepsake memory … it’s really nice that I’ve been chosen to participate in [the planning of] the Village festivities.” Evans was a blown-film extrusion machine operator at Amcor in Mundelein, making plastic bags and other medical gear. Now retired, Evans and his wife, Barbara Jo, spend a few days a week tutoring underserved children in the area on their reading. Evans notes that moving to Lindenhurst was one of the best decisions he has ever made. He’s watched the Village build up around his home and loves the forest preserves, walking trails, and park districts. “Plus, an amazing library with outstanding schools,” he said. “I always admired everything Lindenhurst represented,” he said. “Hard-working residents with the same values I grew up with. I always noticed how well-maintained the homes were and how tenacious the homeowners were in manicuring them. Our family looks forward to continuing to build more great stories with some of the most amazing people.” Throughout 2026, the Village will be collecting Lindenhurst Resident Profiles to capture the memories, experiences, and perspectives that make our community special. Residents are encouraged to share their story by completing the online questionnaire at www.lindenhurstil.org/residentprofile or by picking up a form at Village Hall (2301 E. Sand Lake Road). Learn more about the Village's plans for celebrating America 250 and Lindenhurst 70 by visiting the Village website at www.lindenhurstil.org/america250lindy70.

Riley County Police Department Offers Internship Program for KSU Students

In cooperation with the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work of Kansas State University, the Department will participate in its intern program for upper class students. However, interns not associated with KSU may be considered for inclusion in the program subject to approval of the Director. The Director, or designee, will determine the maximum number of interns accepted during any semester. This allows for adequate cross training in all Divisions of the Department. Interns are viewed at a participant observer. Their objective is to learn as much as possible about police work without being involved in any official police action. To that end, each intern will be assigned to the various divisions of the Department throughout the duration of the internship. Placement into and length of stay within the divisions will be prioritized first upon the needs of the divisions and secondly upon the skills and interests of the intern. All intern positions are unpaid and supervised by the Human Resource Coordinator. For more information about the Department's Internship Program and Public Relations Internship Program contact Miriam Abbott.
