Seek Shelter: Strong Thunderstorm with 50 MPH Winds Nearing Clearwater
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Pinellas County, including Clearwater, warning of a strong thunderstorm with wind gusts up to 50 mph until 6:15 PM EDT; residents should seek indoor shelter.
Residents in Clearwater and surrounding Pinellas County communities should seek shelter indoors immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin has issued a Special Weather Statement due to a strong thunderstorm moving west at 10 mph, currently located over Clearwater.
This alert is effective from 5:52 PM EDT until 6:15 PM EDT today, September 20, 2026. Doppler radar indicates wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible with this storm. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured outdoor objects.
Areas expected to be impacted include Clearwater, Largo, Dunedin, Indian Rocks Beach, Clearwater Beach, South Highpoint, Harbor Bluffs, Ridgecrest, Feather Sound, Safety Harbor, Belleair, Belleair Bluffs, Belleair Beach, Indian Shores, Belleair Shore, Walsingham Park, Belleair Shores, Highpoint, and Saint Pete Clearwater Airport.
