Pinecrest residents seeking to enhance interfaith understanding have opportunities through upcoming events hosted by the organization unBIASed. For several years, the group has built partnerships across diverse faith communities and announced plans for events spanning fall, winter, and spring.
These initiatives aim to bring people from different backgrounds together to learn from one another and strengthen community ties. According to Joanne Harvest Koren, Chair of unBIASed, the organization has a history of quiet work to cultivate relationships within the diverse Miami-Dade community. "We have sat together at tables with those who pray differently from us and may have different backgrounds and customs, shared our food and stories, and sampled their traditional dishes," Koren stated.
Looking ahead, unBIASed plans its fourth annual Breaking Bread Breaking Bias interfaith service and community potluck, which drew 250 attendees last year. An MLK Shabbat service is scheduled for January, and ongoing small group dialogues with diverse community members will continue. The organization will also host its first multi-faith freedom Seder in April.
These projects aim to educate participants, encourage mutual learning, and build a network of allies and friends. unBIASed's efforts align with broader goals of fostering understanding and combating issues like antisemitism, as highlighted by Rabbi Barras in a recent column in The Commentator.
