Gulliver Prep Students Boost Skills This Summer

Gulliver Preparatory School students dedicated their summer break to internships, intensive programs, creative projects and community service, bringing new skills to campus as the academic year began. Experiences ranged from journalism and musical theater to finance, diplomacy and aerospace.

Santiago Ferrero ’27 co-founded Behind the Decks, a nonprofit that provides DJ education to underserved youth in Miami.

Several students pursued journalism. Megan Markus ’28, associate editor of The Raider Voice, contributed a student perspective to USA TODAY, advocating for a permanent daylight saving time to prevent early morning darkness for students. Nirav Budhrani ’27, Lennon Spektor ’27, Elena De Mello ’27 and Teo Ribeiro ’27 attended broadcast and digital journalism sessions at Syracuse University's Newhouse School.

Sadie Scheiner ’27 created digital health content as a social media intern with the Health Information Project. She also participated in the University of Miami’s Miami Montage program alongside Raider Yearbook editor-in-chief Fran Binello ’27. The pair reported on Miami, producing print, video, photography, podcast and studio content.

Performing arts students trained nationwide. Siena De Maria ’28 studied acting, voice, dance and audition technique at the University of Cincinnati’s CCM and Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Reese Folse ’30 completed four weeks at Boston Ballet School’s Summer Dance Program. Ava Anthon ’31 and Samantha Gonzalez ’30 attended the Broadway Artists Alliance Summer Intensive in New York City, where Gonzalez performed an original piece at the final showcase.

Kory Brown ’29 combined soccer training with service in Cali, Colombia, helping build a bathroom and install a rainwater collection and filtration system with TECHO Cali. Vladimir Onosov interned with Bolton Global Capital’s Rohr Private Wealth team, studying fixed-income portfolios and private markets, visiting financial firms and earning Bloomberg Market Concepts certification.

Joaquin Dusek ’27 studied foreign policy at Georgetown University and drafted a policy memo on Middle Eastern trade sanctions. At the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Sebastian Gomez ’32 and Nicolas Fisher ’32 completed simulated missions and astronaut exercises. Their team, LUNA, earned the Outstanding Team Award for their rocket project.

Penélope Goldberg ’37 played Ariel in "The Little Mermaid" at the Hathaway Brown Theater Institute in Shaker Heights, Ohio.

Gulliver students began the school year integrating the lessons and experiences gained during their summer endeavors.
