Older Adult Services

Older Adult Services Pima County and its many community partners offer a number of services, programs and discounts to older adult constituents. This page will be updated as new programs and services are added. ‌ Health Care Service and Website Link Description Blood Pressure Kit Check out blood pressure kits at the Library Healthy Living - Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop Free facilitator-led, participant education program for adults or older adults experiencing chronic health conditions Colorectal Cancer Awareness and Screening Program increases awareness education and interventions for cancer screening to enhance early detection of colon cancer through health education assistance or online screening quiz Healthy Heart Initiative Blood pressure screening resources, prevention and awareness education materials Homebound Flu and COVID-19 Vaccination Programs Offers home-bound COVID-19 or Flu vaccines to those who are unable to leave their home or has considerable difficulty leaving the home Immunizations PCHD offers vaccinations to those who are uninsured or underinsured Insurance Assistance Get help with information about insurance Memory Kits Kits designed to spark conversation with older adults who are having memory problems Personal Care Assistance Provides clothing, eyeglasses, personal hygiene items to those in need Vaccines, Screenings, & Wellness Services Education and one on one discussion Mobile Health Unit Provides a community mobile clinic at  Pima County Public Library locations. Offers vaccinations along with family planning services. All ages are welcome to receive services. Socialization Services and Website Links Description Access to books and reading materials Join book clubs and get access to reading materials through the Bookmobile, Book Bikes. Books also delivered to older adult care facilities, group homes and homes of older adults. Arts and cultural programming Find everything from classes in arts, history, culture and writing to free museum passes to talks on foreign policy and more. Birding, Nature Walks, Outdoor Events Events to get folks out and moving in nature Community Center Activities Socialization and exercise programs at numerous County community centers Crafts and Gaming Crochet circles, Chess and Mahjong gaming opportunities Volunteer Opportunities Multiple volunteer opportunities from museum docent to outdoor activities and dog walking. Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia resources Assistance with linking families and older adults living with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias to appropriate screening resources, Memory Cafes, awareness education, and caregiver support Arts and cultural programming Find everything from classes in arts, history, culture and writing to free museum passes to talks on foreign policy and more. Book Bike Free books, library cards, information about literacy and library programs, bike maps, cycling events Books by Mail Delivers large type and audiobooks to people who are visually impaired or cannot read or use conventionally printed matter due to a physical handicap Books on Wheels Brings books to people who are homebound and unable to visit our libraries Digital Literacy Classes and Access General computer help, tablet use, basic internet and social media use. Also offers access to computers and free Wi-Fi for those with their own devices and Wi-Fi hotspots around town. Elder group health education services Workshops, talking circles for both men and women, free meals, health education, and services are offered for elders to support wellbeing and access to services Healthy Living - Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop Free facilitator led, participant education program for adults or older adults experiencing chronic health conditions Overall Older Adult Resource List List of general information about services for older adults Housing Services and Website Links Description Emergency Eviction Legal Assistance Legal assistance to avoid eviction Home repair Provides home repairs to allow older adults to stay in their homes Lower sewer fees Low-income older adults might qualify for monthly sewer user fees of 25%, 50% or 75% Non-congregate shelter Emergency sheltering options Rapid rehousing/assistance to unhoused older adults Assistance in placement of unhoused older adults Rental/mortgage/utility assistance Assistance in bill pay for housing and utilities Suspending sewer fees Older adults who are winter visitors can suspend service on monthly sewer bills while they're away Recreation Services and Website Links Description Community Center Activities Socialization and exercise programs at numerous County community centers Entertainment Provides free access to DVDs and streaming services including television, movies, and music Exercise and fitness programs Provides chair yoga, yoga for older adults and Tai Chi. Falls prevention activities and resources Community partner led awareness education support and falls risk assessment screening tools for older adults, families and caregivers Food assistance for at-risk older adults Home delivered meals/medically tailored meals for low income residents Food insecurity Partners with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona to provide snacks and meal packs to families in need. Health care with clinicians Partners with El Río Community Health at two libraries to provide primary care, screenings, and chronic disease management to those in need. Health resource support with Local Housing Authorities PCHD partners with local housing authorities to provide chronic disease prevention and management resources for older adult residents Older Adult assistance and socialization Provides essential quality-of-life services Older Adult Nutrition Serving hot meals at congregate sites through partner Catholic Community Services Tax Help and Tax Exemption programs Provides tax help and hosts the Pima County Recorder for the Widows, Widowers and Persons with Disabilities Property Tax exemption program. Transportation assistance for at-risk older adults Transport older adults to and from essential services such as medical appointments and grocery shopping. Roaches / Rodents / Rats Investigate roach and rodent complaints in hotels, motels, and other public settings Roach/Rodent complaints in rental housing fall under Pima County Code 8.40.010all parties, including the occupant, are responsible for the bed bug treatment and removal in rental units. Landlord-tenant issues shall be addressed to the Arizona Department of Housing. The health department does not have the legal authority to respond to mold complaints. If the problem exists with someone who rents or leases, we recommend seeking legal action through the Arizona Landlord-Tenant Act. Health Clinics Our clinic hours are changing! You can view up to date hours for each location here. Please review the new schedule before your visit, as service and walk-in times may be different. Walk-in services are available as capacity allows. Wait times and availability may vary based on the number of patients seeking services each day. Pima County Health Department offers several high-quality health services across multiple clinic locations staffed by licensed medical professionals. We welcome anyone and provide confidential, judgement-free support. If you need services not provided at our clinics, please fill out our Health Referral Form and one of our Health Navigators will reach out within 7 business days. Clinic Hours and Locations Clinic hours vary by location. All clinics are closed between noon – 1 p.m. daily and every first Thursday of the month.
