Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Pickens County; Prepare for Winds and Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Pickens County, including Carrollton, with hazardous winds up to 45 mph and 2-4 inches of rain expected, leading to potential moderate flooding; residents should secure property and seek shelter immediately.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Pickens County, including Carrollton, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning today, October 9, at 6:57 PM CDT. This warning is set to expire on October 10 at 3:00 AM UTC.
Residents in affected areas should plan for hazardous winds. Peak wind forecasts are between 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. There is potential for winds reaching 39 to 57 mph. Complete all property protection efforts as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Limited damage is possible, including to porches, awnings, sheds, and unsecured lightweight objects. Expect some large tree limbs to break and potential power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Additional rainfall of 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected. This presents a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and cause rivers to swell, impacting structures and making roads impassable. Driving conditions will become hazardous in low-lying areas.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
