Residents in Carrollton, Pickens County, must immediately prepare for hazardous wind conditions as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham, AL, effective October 9 at 4:20 PM CDT. The NWS advises acting now to complete all preparations before hazardous winds begin.

Peak wind gusts are forecast to reach 50 mph, with sustained winds of 15-25 mph. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken large tree limbs, and some trees may snap or uproot. Scattered power and communications outages are possible. Roads may become impassable due to debris, particularly in heavily wooded areas.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams and ditches could overflow. Floodwaters may enter some structures. Residents should heed all flood watches and warnings and consider protective actions if in flood-vulnerable areas. Driving conditions will become hazardous, and some road and bridge closures are anticipated.

The NWS does not expect tornadoes at this time. This warning is effective until October 10 at 12:30 AM UTC. For more information and safety guidelines, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
