A Dust Advisory has been issued for Maricopa, AZ, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix, AZ, effective immediately until 12:45 PM MST today, October 10.
A wall of dust was observed at 12:07 PM MST along a line from 10 miles north of Gila Bend to 25 miles southeast of Gila Bend, moving east at 25 mph. This dust event is causing visibility to drop to less than one mile, creating hazardous travel conditions.
Areas impacted include Buckeye, Estrella, Sonoran National Monument, Bosque, Big Horn, Freeman, Cotton Center, Painted Rock Dam, and Mobile. Specific highways affected are AZ Interstate 8 between mile markers 124 and 133, AZ Route 85 between mile markers 123 and 132, and AZ Route 238 between mile markers 10 and 19.
If you are driving, avoid blowing dust if possible. If you are caught in dense blowing dust, pull off the road, turn off your lights, and keep your foot off the brake.
