The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, WV, has issued a Special Weather Statement effective immediately, October 5th, at 2:00 AM EDT, warning of dense fog in many river and mountain valleys.
Visibility may drop to one-quarter mile or less in affected areas. This fog is expected to persist through the morning commute, beginning to dissipate around 9:00 AM EDT today. Drivers should slow down, use low beam headlights, and maintain extra distance between their vehicle and others.
Affected areas include the West Virginia counties of Dickenson, Buchanan, Wayne, Cabell, Mason, Jackson, Wood, Pleasants, Tyler, Lincoln, Putnam, Kanawha, Roane, Wirt, Calhoun, Ritchie, Doddridge, Mingo, Logan, Boone, Clay, Braxton, Gilmer, Lewis, Harrison, Taylor, McDowell, Wyoming, Upshur, Barbour, Northwest Raleigh, Southeast Raleigh, Northwest Fayette, Southeast Fayette, Northwest Nicholas, Southeast Nicholas, Northwest Webster, Southeast Webster, Northwest Pocahontas, Southeast Pocahontas, Northwest Randolph, and Southeast Randolph.
The NWS urges all motorists in these regions to prioritize safety during their morning travels. The Special Weather Statement is set to expire at 9:00 AM EDT.
