A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Neshoba County, with residents urged to prepare for moderate flooding rain and potential evacuations due to 1-3 inches of rainfall, according to NWS Jackson MS.

NESHOBA COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Neshoba County by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jackson MS, effective October 9 at 4:09 AM CDT and expiring at 12:15 PM CDT today, October 9, 2026. Residents are urged to prepare for moderate flooding rain.

The NWS forecasts peak rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches, with localized higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, potentially causing several evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches could overflow. Floodwaters may enter structures, and some roads and bridges could experience closures. Driving conditions are expected to become hazardous due to rapid inundation in low-lying areas.

While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (15-25 mph with gusts to 35 mph), conditions may still be gusty. The NWS advises listening for instructions from local officials and ensuring emergency readiness. Currently, tornadoes are not expected.

Actions for Residents:

  • Consider protective actions if you are in an area vulnerable to flooding.
  • Heed any flood watches and warnings issued by authorities.
  • Ensure your emergency preparedness plans are in place.
  • Stay informed by monitoring local news and NWS updates.

Failure to take action during flooding events may result in serious injury or loss of life.
