Strong Storms Approach Winston, Neshoba Counties; Seek Shelter
Strong thunderstorms are approaching Winston and Neshoba Counties with wind gusts up to 40 mph; residents should seek shelter indoors, effective until 10:45 PM CDT tonight.
WINSTON AND NESHOBA COUNTIES, MS – Residents in Winston and Neshoba Counties should seek shelter indoors as strong thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 40 mph are approaching the area, according to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS, at 9:38 PM CDT on September 21.
Doppler radar at 9:38 PM CDT indicated a line of strong thunderstorms extending from 8 miles southeast of Zama to near Stallo, moving south at 10 mph. This alert is effective until 10:45 PM CDT tonight.
Locations expected to be impacted include Burnside and Stallo around 9:45 PM CDT, Philadelphia around 9:55 PM CDT, and Pearl River around 10:05 PM CDT.
The primary hazard is wind gusts up to 40 mph, which could cause tree limbs to fall and unsecured objects to be blown around. The NWS advises that if you are outdoors, you should consider seeking shelter inside a building.
