Commenter Endorses Adam Burgoon for Haldane School Board

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting with Adam Burgoon. We spoke for over 90 minutes, and I came away very impressed. He’s smart, humble, has done his homework on Haldane’s past and realizes, going forward, the board needs to think hard about how to move the district ahead without laying it all in the taxpayer’s lap.

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting with Adam Burgoon. We spoke for over 90 minutes, and I came away very impressed. He’s smart, humble, has done his homework on Haldane’s past and realizes, going forward, the board needs to think hard about how to move the district ahead without laying it all in the taxpayer’s lap. He is fully aware of much of the data, including this: Approximately 77 percent of Haldane’s revenues are paid by property taxes. Adam respects the various residents who make up that pool. We spoke of the Campus Master Plan 2023 and how important it will be to revisit it and take a clear assessment of what’s in that plan. I think it is unrealistic. As some may recall, I served on the Haldane school board from 2004 to 2015, when we made significant progress in addressing the campus infrastructure but also were very concerned with how money got spent. I never forgot the annual visit I had from a long-time Cold Spring resident around budget time. We went through the numbers line by line, constantly asking the question, “Why?” Every year we ended with his question, “I get it Joe, but when is enough enough?” During my tenure, I was never really able to fully answer that question. Adam may be able to give that answer the respect it deserves for the many people who make up this district. I will vote for Adam and I encourage you to do that, as well. Let’s give him a shot at it.
