Drivers in northern Michigan should prepare for reduced visibility tonight and into Saturday morning due to developing fog. The National Weather Service (NWS) Gaylord has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective from 10:32 PM EDT on September 25, 2026, until 9:00 AM UTC on September 26, 2026.
Fog coverage is expanding, with potential for visibility to drop to one-quarter mile or less in patchy areas. This affects the counties of Emmet, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Leelanau, Antrim, Otsego, Montmorency, Alpena, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Crawford, Oscoda, Alcona, Manistee, Wexford, Missaukee, Roscommon, Ogemaw, Iosco, Gladwin, Arenac, Western Chippewa, Central Chippewa, Southeast Chippewa, Western Mackinac, Eastern Mackinac, Mackinac Island/Bois Blanc Island, Beaver Island and surrounding islands, and Charlevoix.
If driving, exercise caution. The NWS advises turning off high beam lights and using low beams. Additionally, maintain adequate distance between your vehicle and others.
