Beach Hazards Statement expiring for Coastal North Bay and Peninsula
A Beach Hazards Statement for the Coastal North Bay and San Francisco Peninsula Coast is expiring tonight, October 12, 2026, at 10:00 PM PDT, though rip currents remain a risk for beachgoers.
The Beach Hazards Statement previously issued for the Coastal North Bay, including Point Reyes National Seashore, and the San Francisco Peninsula Coast is set to expire tonight, October 12, 2026, at 10:00 PM PDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) in San Francisco reports that surf heights are decreasing and the risk of sneaker waves is diminishing.
While the immediate threat of sneaker waves is subsiding, beachgoers should remain aware that rip currents continue to pose a risk at all beaches with breaking waves. The NWS advises that if you are caught in a rip current, swim parallel to the shore until you can escape the current, then swim at an angle toward the shore.
This advisory was issued by the NWS San Francisco CA.
