A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Surprise Valley California, Eastern Lassen County, and Northern Washoe County from 1 PM PDT today, October 8, until 9 PM PDT Friday, October 9. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno NV issued this warning due to critical fire weather conditions.

Residents in these areas are advised to avoid all outdoor activities that could cause a spark near dry vegetation. This includes yard work, target shooting, and campfires. Please follow all local fire restrictions.

West winds are expected to reach 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Relative humidity will be critically low, between 12% and 17%, for 2 to 5 hours. These conditions, combined with prolonged dry weather, create an environment where fires can spread rapidly and intensify quickly.
