The following is a list of some activities which require a building permit: Alterations Any work that requires a change to the structure. Decks Any deck that is 24" or more above grade, or that serves a required exit. Demolition Demolition in whole or in part of any building. Fences Any fence over 6' in height. Fireplaces Installation of any fireplace (wood, gas or electric). Fuel Tanks Installation of any above ground or below ground fuel tanks. Generators Installation of any generator, whether portable or fixed. New Buildings Construction of any new building. Repairs Repairs that involve structural members, or affect fire safety. Roofing Replacement of roofing (complete tear off and replacement). Sheds Any shed over 200 square feet, or any shed that is permanently attached to the ground, or has utilities connected to it. Signs Installation of any sign. Siding Replacement of siding. Swimming Pools Any above ground or in ground pool. Windows Replacement of windows, if the opening is being enlarged or changed. "The Planning and Zoning Commission referred the Draft POCD on April 23, kicking off a public comment period. During this time, the Board of Selectmen, SCRCOG, and the State DEEP, will have the opportunity to review and comment on the Plan. Community members are also encouraged to review and comment on the Plan during this time. All comments received will be part of the public record and will be considered by the Planning and Zoning Commission at their Public Hearing on Adoption, which will be scheduled in the coming months.
