PERRY COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Perry County, including Marion, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective tonight, October 8, 2026, at 7:10 PM CDT. Residents are advised to complete all property protection efforts as soon as possible and prepare for hazardous conditions.
Wind gusts up to 50 mph are forecast, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. This could lead to damage to unsecured outdoor items, broken tree limbs, and some power outages. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches, with isolated higher totals, are expected. This poses a significant threat for moderate flooding, which may cause evacuations and rescues. Rivers and creeks could overflow, and some roads may become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS currently reports that the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected. The Tropical Storm Watch is effective until October 9, 2026, at 3:15 AM UTC.
