Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Perry County; Prepare for High Winds, Flooding
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Perry County until 9 PM CDT today, with hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and a potential for tornadoes expected.
PERRY COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Perry County, including Marion, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective today, October 8, 2026, at 12:59 PM CDT until 9:00 PM CDT. Residents should prepare for hazardous wind, potential flooding, and the possibility of tornadoes.
Forecasters anticipate winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. The NWS advises completing all efforts to protect property as soon as possible and moving to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Limited impacts are expected, including damage to unsecured structures, snapped tree limbs, and scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and roads could become impassable.
The situation is somewhat favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for a few to develop. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Limited tornado damage is possible, including roofs peeled off, toppled chimneys, and downed trees.
