Intel's $28B Ohio Expansion in New Albany to Add 3K High-Pay Jobs
NEW ALBANY, Ohio — Intel's ambitious semiconductor venture in Licking County's New Albany International Business Park, announced on Jan. 21, 2022, has ballooned from a $20 billion commitment to $28 billion by March 2024, marking Ohio's leap into leading-edge chip production. The project spans a 926-acre site, featuring two state-of-the-art fabrication plants totaling 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms, designed and built by Bechtel in partnership with local unions. Through 2025, the site logged over 9.4 million work hours, peaking with several thousand building trades workers and up to 30% apprentices from NABTU training centers.
The initial phase targets 3,000 direct Intel positions for engineers, technicians and administrators, offering average annual wages of $135,000, alongside 7,000 construction jobs and 10,000 indirect roles in the supply chain. JobsOhio highlights this as Ohio's first leading-edge chip facility, spurring an ecosystem of high-paying opportunities across central Ohio. Intel has pledged $50 million to bolster semiconductor education and research at state institutions, investing in the region's talent pipeline.
Construction momentum underscores steady progress three years in, positioning New Albany as the heart of Silicon Heartland and delivering decades of economic impact for Licking County and beyond. With the project well underway, Ohio residents eye a transformed job market driven by groundbreaking technology.
