PERRY, AL — A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Perry, Alabama, effective immediately as of October 9 at 9:56 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham. Residents in Marion County should prepare for severe winds and potential major flooding. This warning remains in effect until October 10, 2026, at 6:00 AM UTC.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Residents should move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Potential impacts include damage to lightweight structures, broken tree limbs, and scattered power and communication outages. Driving conditions may become hazardous on bridges and elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with additional rainfall of 1-3 inches expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow their banks, and floodwaters could enter numerous structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Tornadoes are not expected at this time, but showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur.
