A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Perry, Alabama, by NWS Birmingham, AL, effective October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT, warning of tropical storm-force winds and significant flooding expected from early Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon; residents must prepare immediately.
PERRY, AL — Residents in Perry, particularly Marion, should prepare immediately for tropical storm-force winds and significant flooding as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham, AL, effective October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT.
Tropical storm-force winds of 30-40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, are expected from early Saturday morning until Saturday afternoon. Plan for hazardous wind conditions, which could cause limited damage to property, break large tree limbs, and lead to scattered power outages. All efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible, and residents must move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. An additional 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, is forecasted, posing a significant threat of moderate flooding. This could lead to swollen rivers, overflowing small streams, and inundation of low-lying areas. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed all flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS does not anticipate tornadoes at this time. For more information and safety resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
