PERRY COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Perry County, including Marion, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, Alabama, effective immediately as of October 9 at 1:19 AM CDT. This watch indicates that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 36 hours.

Residents should prepare for hazardous winds between 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts potentially reaching 50 mph. Damage to unsecured structures like porches, sheds, and mobile homes is possible. Expect broken tree limbs, potential downed trees, and scattered power outages. All efforts to secure property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is a significant threat, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and low-lying areas could experience rapid inundation. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. This alert is effective until October 9, 2026, at 9:30 AM UTC. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
