Pembroke Pines city leaders approved enhanced safety protocols for the city's charter schools Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026. The City Commission voted to adopt several key safety and preparedness documents for Pembroke Pines Charter Schools (PPCS) for the 2026-2027 academic year. These include the Florida Safe Schools Assessment Tool (FSSAT), an updated K-12 Florida Model Threat Management Policy, and a revised K-12 Emergency Preparedness Plan.
The commission also approved the K-12 PPCS Package Screening Policy. Additionally, commissioners authorized PPCS to apply for and accept the 2026-2027 School Hardening Grant. These measures aim to strengthen the safety and security infrastructure within the charter school system, creating a more secure learning environment for students and staff.
The FSSAT assesses and improves school safety, while the updated threat management policy and emergency preparedness plan outline responses to potential incidents. The package screening policy establishes procedures for inspecting incoming packages.
By applying for the School Hardening Grant, PPCS seeks funding for physical security upgrades, such as improved building access controls and security cameras.
