A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for St. Clair County, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued this warning at 4:20 PM CDT today, October 9, and it is set to expire at 12:30 AM CDT on October 10.

Residents in affected areas, including Pell City and Moody, should prepare for hazardous winds and moderate flooding. Peak winds are forecast to reach 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Damage to outdoor structures, fallen tree limbs, and scattered power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now, and preparations should be completed before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Additional rainfall of 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected, posing a significant risk of moderate flooding. This may lead to swollen rivers, overflowing small streams, and inundation in low-lying areas. Evacuations and rescues are possible. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though gusty winds from showers and thunderstorms may still occur. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
