Coastal Georgetown residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution today, October 7, due to a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service Wilmington NC. Both advisories are in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening.

A Moderate Risk of rip currents is present, alongside strong north to south longshore currents. These currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into dangerous areas. If you plan to enter the ocean, check with lifeguards first for current conditions and potential hazards. Caution should be used when in or near the water.

A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates up to one half foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Vulnerable causeways to and from local beaches may experience minor coastal flooding. Low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks may also observe minor coastal flooding.

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. For the latest information regarding coastal flood impacts and closures, check with local officials.
