Van Buren County Sheriff Gets $10K for Reserve Deputy Radios
The South Haven Area Community Foundation donated $10,000 to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office to purchase portable radios for reserve deputies.
Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott said the radios will let volunteer reserve deputies communicate directly with dispatch, patrol units, and emergency personnel during community events, traffic control, emergency incidents, and search and rescue operations.
"This generous donation will have a direct impact on our ability to serve the community," Abbott said. "Our Reserve Division plays an important role in supporting public safety efforts across the county, and these new radios will provide them with the tools they need to communicate effectively and operate safely."
Reserve deputies support full-time deputies and first responders during large public events and emergency operations. Abbott said reliable communications improve coordination and officer safety while enabling rapid response.
The Sheriff's Office headquarters is at 205 South Kalamazoo Street in Paw Paw. Residents interested in joining the Reserve Division can contact the office at 269-657-3101.
