Residents in Polk and Paulding counties, particularly near Braswell, Dallas, and Rockmart, are advised to seek immediate shelter due to a strong thunderstorm. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, GA, issued a Special Weather Statement at 3:14 PM EDT, effective until 3:45 PM EDT today, October 4, 2026.

The storm, located near Braswell (approximately 9 miles northwest of Dallas), is nearly stationary and poses two primary hazards: frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy rain. Radar indicates these conditions.

Lightning is extremely dangerous. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck. Heavy rainfall may lead to temporary street flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage. Electrical appliances should not be used unless in an emergency.

Motorists in affected areas, including Dallas, Rockmart, Hiram, Aragon, Braswell, Taylorsville, Yorkville, Cross Roads, Burnt Hickory Ridge, New Hope, and Van Wert, should slow down and be prepared for potential loss of control due to hydroplaning.
